A BVI of Readers Campaign continues as CCT Sponsored Essay Competition Builds Awareness for Literacy

Road Town, Tortola (October 12, 2015):

During the month of September, the Rotaract Club of Tortola partnered with CCT to host an essay competition for children in Grades 5 and 6 to raise awareness on the importance of literacy within the territory. Students across the territory were asked to write a 300-word essay describing what the topics “Be a Gift to the World” or “Serve from Within” meant to them. CCT provided the prizes which included a GOFASTLTE Router – 1st prize, an Android Air 5.0 with $20 credit –as 2nd prize, and a Huawei MiFi Device with 4GB of 4G data for 1 month as 3rd prize.

The winning essays all came from Cedar International School and were composed by

  • Ariel Mohamed who won 1st prize,
  • Kendi Bispham – 2nd prize, and
  • Freya Childs – 3rd prize.

“Just over a year ago we initiated our community oriented campaign “a BVI of Readers” aimed at elevating the BVI Reading Council’s message.  So when the Rotaract Club of Tortola approached us about hosting an essay competition there was no hesitation.  We are thrilled that more people are getting involved in Literacy. In this rapidly advancing world, CCT welcomes synergies such as this that allow us to truly motivate and inspire our young people to be a generation that reads. This is us doing our part in ensuring tomorrow’s leaders are prepared.” – said Janette Brin, Marketing & PR Manager for CCT

In the coming weeks, CCT plans to visit schools around the territory showing support for educators by reinforcing their lessons pertaining to reading and writing.
